Responsible Cannabis Retailers of Wilmington
Responsible Cannabis Retailers of Wilmington (“RCRW”) was created to build consumer trust in an industry that has no NC state regulation as of its founding in December 2022. Affiliation with RCRW does not constitute a binding commitment to the principles set forth below, but it does indicate a good faith pledge to move at a reasonable pace toward a safer industry that will allow consumers to purchase cannabis products with greater confidence.
Retailers Pledge
Responsible Cannabis Retailers of Wilmington pledge a commitment made by individuals or organizations involved in the cannabis/hemp industry to uphold a set of ethical and responsible business practices. Such a pledge may include various principles and guidelines:
1. Age Verification and Access
Require a state or federally issued form of identification to verify that all customers are of age.
2. Compliance with laws
Adhere to all relevant laws and regulations at all levels of government.
3. Product Safety/Testing
Ensure that all products sold to the public have been tested to verify compliance and consistency with what is stated on the product’s label. Tests will be performed by an independent, third party testing laboratory.
4. Responsible Marketing and Advertising
To engage in responsible marketing and advertising practices that do not target or appeal to minors and avoid making unproven health claims about cannabis products.
5. Promoting Responsible Use
Encourage responsible and informed cannabis consumption, which may include providing educational resources and information on safe usage.
6. Trademarked products/properties
To refrain from the sale of any products that infringe upon trademarked properties.
7. Social Responsibility
To give back to the community through various initiatives, such as the responsible disposal of cannabis, engaging with the community and sourcing hemp materials from farms that employ sustainable practices when possible, responsible cannabis disposal, and community engagement.
8. Ethical Business Practices
Agree to conduct business ethically, including fair labor practices, sustainable environmental measures, and good corporate citizenship.
9. Employee Training
Invest in employee training and education to ensure they are knowledgeable about cannabis products and their responsible sale.
10. Reporting/Accountability
Establish procedures/processes to document and report issues pertaining to non-compliance and maintaining chains of custody and accountability within the company.

Who is RCRW?
We are a group of Wilmington-area retailers of hemp and hemp-derived products that pledge to abide by standards we have agreed upon until such time as a regulatory body is formed in NC to oversee our industry. Our goal is to employ best practices to ensure that sales of hemp products are conducted in a manner that prioritizes safety, compliance with any relevant laws and regulations at local, state and Federal levels and the well-being of our customers and the broader community.
